Question #3:

Multiple networks: Networking issue?

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Windows 7 Home Edition
Version 6.1 Build 7600

Relevant information:
Broadcom 2046 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Dongle with First Connect
Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Wi-Fi Finder
Samsung SGH-A887 (AT&T)
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hello everyone! I have a little networking/connection problem I would appreciate assistance with.

I have a Samsung SGH-A887 Solstice cell phone with a 3G service plan that has Bluetooth dial-up modem capabilities. That is, when I have my phone close enough to my computer, I can establish a decent connection via Bluetooth to the Internet through my phone. I frequently use this as a way to access the internet when my alternative connection method (described below) is not available.

My real connection is my 11 Mbps High-Speed wireless connection. I am frequently connected to this network, but when certain conditions do not apply, I find myself unable to connect to this particular network and must resort to the slower and less stable cell-phone dial-up doodad.

When I am using either connection independent of the other, everything is fine and dandy. Both connections run well, and I have very few problems: mostly related to Win7 and Chrome, however. The problems begin when both connections are active simultaneously. If my wireless connection and dial-up connection are both active, they seem to cancel each other out (or something), and the connection ends up being SLOWER than the bandwidth of the two combined connections. Not statistically, but performance wise.

I am fairly new to the world of networking (veterans would probably notice. I bet I butchered a number or terms, and am leaving out relevant information. I apologize). I am still learning the ropes to the behind-the-scenes world of the Internet. I like to think I have a pretty good understanding of the basics, but when it comes to the nitty-gritty details, I get lost. When I found out my phone could be a modem, I was ecstatic.

What I'm trying to ask, I guess, is if anyone has had this problem before, and has found a workable solution. And if the answer to that is no, if there are any networking tools I could familiarize myself with that I could use to diagnose the problem myself. Please don't include experience as a factor of weather I will understand the program or not - I can learn quickly. I would actually prefer getting a summation of all known useful networking tools that could assist me, opposed to just getting a straightforward answer, but whatever the collective group of Yahoo! Answers can come up with is good enough for me.

Please please please inform me as to what other details would be required to answer this question. I will try to leave it open as long as possible.

Thank you!

Question #4:

Do you ever really get over being cheated on?

My fiance cheated on me... with girls on the internet, he never met them in real life, only internet. He has told me over and over again that he wants to be with me that it was just a form of porn and that he would stop and for the most part he has, every once in a while he will get a text message or e-mail from one of these girls and its just by chance that i see it because he always locks his phone. Even when he is just doing normal stuff on his phone im constantly thinking he is doing it again when he gets on the net because he keeps his phone locked still. im so jealous now that its like i cant let him off his leash and i never used to be like that and when i start askin questions like what are you doing, who you talking to, ect. it starts a huge fight. We are together all the time, work together, do all the same stuff, ect. and that has never been a problem and I love him with all my heart. I believe he loves me too deep down. While he has improved on other areas that were problematic, this is one area i can not get over.... any suggestions?

Visiting USA and trying to decide whether to bring laptop and use hot spots or USB plug-in monthly pre-paid for internet/email.(not need computer for word processing, or excel, etc) Already have a USA Go Phone and can buy pre-paid SIM card for that. Alternative is leave laptop at home and buy iPhone or similar device for tel/email/internet - but can't seem to find one that is pre-paid without 12 or 24 month commitment. How convenient is internet browing on iPhone type devices?
If the iPhone is not ideal, does the new iPad make sense for this purpose (email and internet browsing - or same problem of no pre-paid plan - and also no telephone (though get book reader which could be handy)

Question #11:

How should I handle my teen acting out at a new school?

Due to circumstances beyond my control, my daughter had to recently start her third new school in less than 2 years. The reason for our most recent move was a positive one - I bought a home for myself and my two children! However this morning I received a call from the new school's assistant principal, letting me know that last week, during my daughter's first days at her new school there were behavior problems reported by her teachers.

Overall, my daughter has not had problems with behavior or getting in trouble at school for her behavior. She's a typical 14-year old in most regards, is a little hyperactive (she was diagnosed with ADHD around age 6 but the symptoms are not even severe enough for us to feel the need to use medication). Her personality is something of an attention seeking one - she will show-off in certain situations, especially if she's feeling overwhelmed or insecure - again, traits common to kids (especially girls) of this age.

The assistant principal stated that a few of her teachers reported she'd acted disrespectfully (verbally) in their classes, and in her home ec class she apparently took a bottle of candy sprinkles and was eating them and sharing them with other people (the assistant principal said she 'stole' the bottle, so obviously she took it without permission and didn't not return it).

They have asked her to replace the item she took from home ec, and the asst principal's overall attitude wasn't one of condemnation of her actions, more a sympathetic/empathetic one. He communicated an understanding of how hard it must be for her to have changed schools mid-year (I don't know if he's even aware of our other moves prior to this one), and expressed a desire to try to handle this in the right way, i.e. not be harsh on her and 'turn her off' to the new school and make her hate it right away by coming down hard on her for her behavior her first couple of days.

I do not agree with taking things without permission and definitely agree she should replace it (the asst principal's stance). My instinct is to put my daughter on restrictions (take cell phone away, disallow internet privilege, etc) this week for behaving disrespectfully towards her teachers because this directly violates the standard of behavior I have taught my children. However, I know moving so much has to have been hard on her, so I don't want to punish her and have things turn worse.

How should I handle addressing her recent behaviors, given that I do not approve of how she's acted but also don't want to 'punish' her for simply feeling bad about leaving her old school and friends behind? I want to make it clear to her that she cannot act however she wishes just because she's unhappy about leaving her old school, and remind her that her actions are forming impressions on her new teachers. I'm just not sure 'punishment' is the right way, but I also am not sure that just having a talk with her will accomplish what I hope to.

Question #13:

Is there any way to block a VPN?

I am using witopia vpn from china, using the more expensive package. The one that can be used with the iPhone...=/

So yeah, it's worked fine for a while but lately my dorm at Fudan University did some maintenance on the internet connection, said they were upgrading or something. Now I can't connect to any of the servers.

So is there any way to block a VPN, or is this some other problem? My family uses a shared VPN so we can't all be on at the same time, but I checked with them and nobody was using it. (by phone though, so who knows...)
It just says connection to blah blah server has failed

Question #14:

Switching ISP question? ATT to Comcast?

Currently, I live in the 95121 area, using ATT DSL at 150Kb/s for $25/mo
I want to upgrade to Comcast economy high speed cable at 1Mbps for $25/mo

Now I went to the comcast website to see their services. at the bottom of the specs list, it said this is the starting price for those already subscribed to comcast's other services. But since i use ATT for phone services, I want to switch to comcast for the internet, will I be able to do this? And what does it mean by starting prices for those already subscribed, because I saw no label saying anything was the starting price, just a flat out price of 24.99/mo.

Just to get to the point, I want to switch from ATT internet to Comcast with the description from the first paragraph. Will i have problems?

Question #15:

Question #16:

HELP - Am i invading his privacy? - should I confront him?! HELP!?

HELP - Am i invading his privacy? - should I confront him?! HELP!?

Should i confront my boyfriend about his flirtatious, suggestive texts to his ex?

I completely understand the horror of invading someones privacy, but I literally was just so bored and with no tv on, internet not working and his phone just laying there on the table i got bored so flicked through not expecting to find anything! although to be honest i have no qualms if he wanted to look through my phone!

Unfortunately I think he may be cheating as before we got together 7 months ago we both got std checks to make sure we were both safe. however a month ago he went on holiday with his friends for 4 days and came back saying he thinks he caught something from when WE had sex, insisting having sex whilst on my period was the reason. I find it highly suspicious that he goes away on holiday and complains when he gets back. which makes me think he may have cheated.

our relationship i would describe as good until my discovery! we have fun, we treat each other right we go out its great. so im angry as to why he has sent such texts

the texts he sent were sent 2-3 months ago to his ex how 'its a shame im not in the area we could have got a hotel' and others saying how ' don't pretend like you don't wanna be with me i know your bored' and 'once you loose me, im gone'

we have been together for 7 months but this is racking in my head, he may still be doing this ? but then i think if he still is i would see more texts? but then he could just be very clumsy , and im upset that a month after these texts had been sent he told me he loved me and gave me the most amazing valentines day! so its all very confusing.

even if he isn't doing this any more am i right to ask why he did it in the first place??

should i ask him about it? and if so, how without me looking like an overly paranoid person.

Question #18:

Is there any free instant messengers you can use for your phone without needing internet?

Question #19:

Do you think i love her?

I met a girl via the internet, i have known her for 4 weeks or so.
She says she loves me, but i have told her a few times its best not to get serious and i don't love her back, and that she needs to try and move on

I couldn't help but flirt with her when we talked though, i was good for about 2 days then she would flirt (She never stopped, i tried too.) and i just couldn't help myself and flirt back.

In 4 weeks, i have tried to make it clear that i am unsure of my feelings for her twice, but she still wants to flirt.

But about 4 days ago she was in a bit of a panic, and asked me what i thought of her.
I was thrown off by the question a bit, but she told me she only had 4 minutes so i had to hurry, and i told her what i thought.

I told her;

You are the most important girl iv met, and i do care about you, I'm just not sure how deep my feelings go.

I just want you to be happy, which is why iv told you to try and fall in love with someone else, because i can only give you so much happiness through the computer or phone calls.

As long as you are happy, I'm happy. Even if its not me who makes you happy anymore.
You are the most beautiful girl iv known, and i don't understand why you even like me, when you can do so much better ( Others have confirmed this for me, she can do better. ) and I'll always be here for you.

She was speechless at first, then asked me if i realized what i just said.
I was kind of puzzled, but i said "I was the one who said it, so yes i know." but that was sarcasm.
I honestly had no idea what she thought i said at first.

She said that my feelings were the same as hers, and that i was in love.
I was startled for a moment, because it didn't feel like i loved her ( I have never been in love, so i don't exactly know how to tell. Iv told her this as well. ) and i told her that those are my true feelings, but I'm not sure enough to call it love just yet and i need some time before i can say it.

that was about 4 days ago like i said, but today in the car with my brother. i found myself thinking of her, and what we would do if i was in California with her (No dirty thoughts, as much as i like those as well) and this went on for about 5 minutes me just thinking about her, and my brother looks over and he asked me in a very interested voice why i was smiling to myself.

I didn't even know i was smiling until he pointed it out, but i had been smiling ever since i started thinking about her.

Do you guys think i love her?
I have never been in love before, so i don't know how to tell if this is love.
I am 15, and she just turned 14 today.
She was interested in my friend, and he didn't like her back so he asked me if i would flirt with her a bit, that's how we met.

It started out with me being uninterested, but she fell in love with me and now i think about her all the time.
