Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save. Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers "excellent voice quality," "better than landline." Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone. Try out ooma's enhanced calling features with a free trial of ooma Premier, which includes a free second phone line, real-time message screening, one-touch Do Not Disturb and Send to Voicemail, a second personal number with private voicemail, and more.

Groc Said: Best kept secret in phone service ( Sep. 2nd 2010 )

Many of the other reviews give great depth and detail, so I will just add a few comments.
I 1st hooked up OOMA so that the hub was connected to the modem, and one phone was connected to the hub. Then, my other service was connected also to the hub, as per instructions.
When I got a call, if I picked up the phone on the hub, I was voip. If I picked up any other phone, I was cable service.
After several weeks, my cable promo was about to expire, so I had my number ported by OOMA. In ~3 weeks it was done, and I was all voip.
Now, no phone bill at all!
We seldom used our phone, so at the end-of-promo rate of $40/mo, I couldn't see spending all of that money for something I seldom used.
What I don't understand is why they do not advertise. People I have talked to, and myself, had never heard of this before. I only found it because I was looking toward magic jack, and was thinking of getting a cheap, used, low-end computer to act as a full time modem. OOMA did what magic jack should have thought of - just eliminate the PC and: LAN in - phone out.
I didn't want to leave my PC on full time, so, while looking for an alternative to mj, I found OOMA.
Great!

Tiny Tim Said: No Question... The best way to ditch the home phone bill but keep the home phone ( Sep. 2nd 2010 )

We have enjoyed the extra cash every month, and the no-hassle phone service that ooma offers. Assuming they can stay in business, this could be one of the best investments I have ever made. Bell and Comcast wanted at least $20 a month for local service! Ooma has already paid for itself and you would never know that this is VoIP, aside the lack of a phone bill.

Roy Said: Get OOMA, enjoy free phone! ( Aug. 31st 2010 )

Easy setup, no problem to use it, never need to call CSR. Sound quality is as good as or better than regular landline. No monthly bill (which is a rip off), free long distance and caller ID/waiting. Get it, get rid of the phone bill and enjoy life!

Victor NY Said: Great product. Would recommend. ( Aug. 31st 2010 )

I purchased OOMA Core in April 2010 from Amazon. Prior to that purchase I had Optimum Voice. I was planning to run Optimum Voice and OOMA Core in parallel for 2 weeks while I was evaluating OOMA. Howeever, after one week I disconnected Optimum Voice service because quality of the calls with OOMA is great and what is even greater is that there are no monthly or any other types of fees. In about a month OOMA's purchase prices will be recovered by not paying $35 per month as I used to pay for Optimum Voice. What can I say: Great product!!! Great Service!!!

Thanks Amazon and OOMA.

K. Lee Said: Great deal! ( Aug. 28th 2010 )

I love this product! The set up took just a few minutes and I'm no techie. Since then, this product has worked so well. Had a blackout but using my regular phone I still could have called emergency services if I needed to. This works with all my current Internet and office/ phone equipment including my fax machine, modem and hub all of which are a few years old. The only downside for me was finding the dsl lines that were active/not active in my apartment to set up the scout.
